I’ve been in the Wellness Industry for almost 20 years, but before that, I was in the Beauty Industry for 16 years. Believe it or not, the two industries are incredibly related! When you take the steps to living a healthy life every day, the results show on your skin.
Many women have the goal to look as young as they can for as long as they can, and while I always maintain that feeling and looking younger starts from the inside, we still need to take care of our skin on the outside. So many people want quick, easy answers to looking younger. Unfortunately, there is no “secret” or simple trick. But here are some simple steps to follow that can help you have younger looking skin!
AM Routine
- Cleanse. I use a Vitamin C Cleanser because that vitamin C and Citric Acid help with age spots, discoloration and dull skin (something that happens as we age.
- Tone. Toning is critical because all cleansers (even a bar of soap) changes your PH balance. Toners bring your skin back to its ph balance. I use one that I can spray on so it’s super easy and refreshing.
- Serum. Serums can do a variety of things: refine skin texture, reduce fine lines and boost moisture levels to plump aging skin. Personally I rotate a variety of serums to counteract the aging process.
- Moisturize. Don’t take this step for granted. Again, I rotate these but my favorite has prebiotics and probiotics to help to help fight free radicals that cause damage.
- Eye serum. The area around our eyes is very delicate. One of my favorite eye serums has Bakuchiol as one of the ingredients. Bakuchiol has been scientifically researched to significantly improve collagen production.
- Sunscreen. Sunscreen should be a SEPARATE STEP from skincare and kept out of your moisturizers and foundations. When manufacturers add sunscreen to those products, they have to remove certain ingredients that we NEED because these ingredients, when combined, cancel each other out.
PM Routine
Your PM routine is CRITICAL because that’s when your skin repairs itself. First, do NOT sleep in your makeup!.
- Cleanse. A foaming cleanser is a great product to use at night because the emollients will help to cut through the extra oil and makeup from the day!
- Tone. Toning is critical because all cleansers (even a bar of soap) changes your PH balance. Toners bring your skin back to its ph balance. I recommend using one that can be sprayed on so it’s super easy and refreshing.
- Serum. As stated before, serums can do refine skin texture, reduce fine lines and boost moisture levels to plump aging skin. It’s often a good idea to rotate a variety of serums to counteract the aging process.
- Moisturize. I can’t say enough about moisturizing your skin! It is fundamental. I recommend using a heavier moisturizer at night since the skin is at rest and can benefit from the extra attention.
- Eye cream. Since the skin around the eyes is probably the thinnest skin on the body. It’s often a good idea to use an eye serum followed by a heavier eye cream at night.
Consistency is key in all things, and skin care is no different. But shop carefully. Department store brands charge so much more because of expensive packaging, advertising and endorsements. Those add-ons do not make your products work any better!
