The nutrition industry is unregulated.
That means that companies can advertise a claim, even if they have never tested on that claim. Or they can twist the claims so you think you are getting more out of a product than you are.
For example, you might see a product in the store that claims “Improves inflammation” when the product has never been tested for inflammation.
How can they can get away with that? As long as they have an INGREDIENT that has clinical proof of improving inflammation, then they can say that.
How can you know what’s true? Pay attention to what the label (or commercial) actually says. On a commercial, you’ll probably hear “clinically proven ingredients” instead of “clinically proven to improve”.
My suggestion is to look for these two qualities when you shop for supplements:
- Clinical third party proof of absorption, ideally at the cellular level and not just the bloodstream
- Clinical third party studies of proof of performance
