I love Fiberwise!

About those supplements you have…

Today, I stopped by Walgreens to refill a subscription and pick up a snack, and what do I see? An aisle with all these bottles of vitamin supplements for sale. With those markdowns those supplements are more than likely getting old—or close to their “Best by” date.

I never need to worry about “Best by” dates because I get my nutritional supplements from a responsible manufacturer. My favorite supplements are freshly delivered to my door within two weeks of manufacture. Each month I receive a full 30-day supply of all my supplements in handy AM and PM packs. And it’s more cost-effective too! I am so grateful I found this company.

American produce

I read an article recently that supported something I already knew:  American produce has lost a lot of it’s nutritional value… in some cases up to 80% or more.

For example If you wanted to match the vitamin A content of an orange grown in 1940s, you would have to eat eight oranges grown today.

The potato, for instance, has lost 100 percent of its vitamin A content, 57 percent of its vitamin C and iron, and 28 percent of its calcium.

Why?

Erosion of the topsoil plus degraded soil quality. There are other reasons, but these are the 2 primiary causes of the loss of nutrition in fruits and vegetables. Years ago, farmers rotated crops, allowing time for the soil to replenish itself. But in recent times, American farmers are under financial pressure and their fields are not given the adequate amount of time to replenish the mineral content needed to sustain healthy produce. For reference, 3 inches of topsoil require 1,000 years to build, but only a few modern farming seasons to destroy.

One other note: according to one study, organic food could have a nutritional advantage over conventional food because organic produce has between 20 to 30 percent more nutrients. But that’s still not enough to make up what we our bodies need.

Hence, the need for supplements. But can you trust your supplements that they are actually getting absorbed into your body?

Stay tuned for me to teach you what to look for when it comes to your supplements!

Surprising brain boost: Brushing your teeth may reduce the risk of dementia, new study suggests

Here is yet another reason to take good care of your teeth

Chewing boosts blood and oxygen flow to the head — keeping the brain healthy. Gum disease is caused by inflammation of tooth-supporting tissues. It affects about one in seven adults. The study involved 172 Japanese participants whose average age was 67; they did not have memory problems at the outset.

For those with mild gum disease, fewer teeth was associated with a faster rate of brain shrinkage in the left hippocampus — key for remembering words and language. The same phenomenon was identified in those with severe gum disease and more teeth.

DENTISTS REVEAL WHY YOU SHOULDN’T BRUSH YOUR TEETH IN THE SHOWER

He also said, “Controlling the progression of gum disease through regular dental visits is crucial, and teeth with severe gum disease may need to be extracted and replaced with appropriate prosthetic devices.”

Healthy readings are from one to three millimeters.

Mild gum disease involves probing depths of three or four mms in several areas, and severe gum disease five or six mms as well as more bone loss. It can cause teeth to become loose and eventually fall out.

Fox News contributor Dr. Marc Siegel, a clinical professor of medicine and a practicing internist at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City, told Fox News Digital, “There is something to this.”

He said a large study in 2020 by the National Institute on Aging “linked gum disease to dementia. It is because bacteria is associated with inflammation — and inflammation leads to neurodegeneration.”

So “it makes sense that brushing your teeth and caring for your gums decreases both bacteria and inflammation and thereby dementia,” he said. Dr. Siegel added, “It is also connected with staying active and caring for yourself, which decreases depression, and is also associated with dementia. Keeping the brain active and working slows neurodegeneration and dementia.”

A Cheat Sheet of Healing Foods!

Certain foods are known to help heal particular organs. Isn’t it interesting (and in my opinion, it’s by design) that the healing food is similar in shape to the designated organ?

I Love Soup…..

but homemade is the ONLY way to go for me!

It will soon be soup season and I’m getting ready. Did you know I was recently reading soup can labels and the label on Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup says: “Contains bioengineered food ingredients”.
What?
If you google it, you’ll find that…..
The USDA defines bioengineered foods as containing “detectable genetic material that has been modified through certain lab techniques and cannot be created through conventional breeding or found in nature.”
Ummm…makes me a little nervous, what exactly are we consuming? Plastic? Chemicals? I don’t know. Do you?
So it is only homemade for me from now on!
