How Often Do You Prepare Home Cooked Meals?

Home-cooked meals offer so many benefits:

  • A reduction in process food consumption — Processed foods generally contain higher levels of unhealthy fats, sodium, dyes, preservatives and added sugars.
  • An increase in the use of fresh produce and whole grains — This can lead to a diet rich in essential nutrients and lower in harmful additives.
  • A greater awareness of portion control and mindful eating — The process of cooking makes us slowdown and make us more aware of how much we put on our plates.
  • Cultivation of life skills — Involving our children in meal prep teaches them healthy eating habits and important life skills they will need as adults.
  • Enhanced mental health — Research shows that creating a meal can positively enhance mood as the creative process helps one experience a sense of achievement.

But there’s a bigger picture. Studies suggest that frequent family dinners help prevent issues such as eating disorders, alcohol and substance use, depression, and suicidal thoughts in teens.

We live in a world where we are less connected than ever before, so why not use cooking as a way to build friendships and family relationships!

Protect Your Cells from SUGAR DAMAGE

We all know that sugar is not good for us for a plethora of reasons, but did you know that excess blood sugar can lead to GLYCATION which accelerates body wide aging.

Diabetics already suffer accelerated glycation, but the destruction that happens from glycation can happen to people with normal blood glucose levels as well.

Thiamine is a B vitamin you get from foods like whole grains, meat, legumes and nuts. It helps cells in your body grow and work and is essential for energy production and brain health. Research suggests that Vitamin B1 (thiamine) can prevent diabetes induced damage in eyes, hearts and kidneys.

Remember, if you take B Vitamins, make sure they are methylated to ensure your body can absorb them.

Balancig Your Stress Bucket

My Two Cents Worth

If there’s one thing I would convert to better, cleaner and greener items it would be that supermarket laundry, cleaning aisle.
Did you know that it takes only 26 seconds for whatever your skin touches to enter your bloodstream?!
That’s mind-boggling.

The brand I use is made with zero carcinogens, zero parabens, and is free of so many other ingredients that you can’t pronounce.
I say, if you can’t pronounce it, it’s likely not something you want or need in your system.

And that’s my two cents.

I’m always talking about safer, better and less expensive

You hear me yapping about how I can promise you better, safer and less expense in your shopping if you shop where I do.

This week I received another reminder—my monthly shipment of Riverbend Ranch beef is coming soon, but I needed more ground beef before it arrived for an upcoming barbecue get-together. I ran out to a local store even though I am committed to wholesome beef when I am cooking – it is a major part of my eating to help me stay in focus. I was surprised when I picked up my package, I am pretty sure I hid my “sticker shock” when I paid for it.

I’m also pretty sure the store brand is not PRIME or HIGH CHOICE that was aged for 21 days right on the ranch Like my Riverbend Ranch beef is. Plus, it was nearly twice the price at $10.10 per pound. My Riverbend Ranch is $5.50 per pound (in a combo pack)

RIVERBEND RANCH BLACK LABEL IS:

– Never Raised with hormones or antibiotics. NEVER EVER!

– Every cut is graded USDA Prime or High Choice and aged 21 days for maximum flavor and tenderness.

– Fully vertically integrated. We control quality through every step in the supply chain.

– Humanely treated and pasture-raised in open spaces by their own mothers.

– An extraordinary value for unmatched quality and flavor!

Take t from me, it is worth it!

What comes to mind when you hear the term “Mental Health”?

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental health refers to “a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well-being.” Our mental health influences how we think, feel and behave in every day life. It also affects our ability to handle stress, face and overcome challenges, maintain and build relationships, and recover from difficulties and setbacks.

So how do we determine if we are “Mentally Healthy”?

Here’s a simple checklist: Mentally healthy people……

  • Enjoy life and have the ability to laugh and have fun.
  • Are able to deal with stress and bounce back from adversity.
  • Feel a sense of meaning and purpose, in both their activities and their relationships.
  • Are flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Are able to build and maintain fulfilling relationships.

We all experience disappointment, loss, and change. While a normal part of life, these emotions and experiences still cause sadness, anxiety, and stress. But just as those who are physically healthy are able to bounce back from an injury or illness quickly, people with strong mental resilience bounce back from adversity, trauma and stress. They remain focused, flexible and productive in the bad times as well as the good.

Do You Shop Online?

I’m curious, do you enjoy shopping online? Do you shop once a month, once a week, or more often?

In my hectic life, I’m constantly online shopping to save time or picking up my online orders at the store.

But this Online shopping club is my favorite :
It only offers American-made products, and it is a company that provides transparency on where our money
goes and what it supports.

By purchasing these American_made products we successfully reduced the toxins that were unknowingly entering our home
through cleaning supplies and personal care products, thereby safeguarding our babies and pets.

Plus, I started saving money on my purchases. Why? Because I’m are buying quality products that actually work, so I don’t need
to use as much as I did with other products!

My time in a supermarket has been drastically reduced and I rarely go to drug store. I get all of my daily consumables at this amazing shopping club—Including high quality beef.
It’s been twenty years, you know it has to be good if I’ve been a loyal customer that long!

Conditions That Change Your Brain

Mental Health is a HUGE topic, and yet most don’t realize how many different conditions can impact your Brain Health.

  • Alcohol — Over time, drinking too much can damage your brain. Research shows that alcohol can shrink
certain parts of your brain, too.
  • Migraines — Research shows that chronic migraines might cause you to lose some gray and white matter.
  • Concussions — With an impact to the head, the brain slides and bumps into the inside of the skull. This bruises the brain and tears nerve tissue. Concussions shake up the balance of chemicals in the brain, harming nerve cell function and triggering inflammation.
  • Meditation — One study found that meditating for two months increased gray matter in parts of the brain that control emotions and learning. It can reduce inflammation in the brain and protect against Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Exercise — Exercise pumps blood to the brain, and that delivers oxygen and nutrients. It stimulates the release of proteins keeping brain cells healthy and help grow new ones.

The list goes on: PTSD, Depression, Strokes, Aneurysms, MS, ADHD, BiPolar Disorders and more. But knowing the impact helps us be more motivated to be proactive in taking care of our brain!

Want to Slow Down the Aging Process?

AVOID THESE 8 HABITS

Often, we are attracted to products that will help us slow down the aging process, such as anti-aging skin care. But what about taking a proactive approach to staying young by AVOIDING habits that ACCELERATE the aging process?

When you read the Fox News article , overall, none of this should be new to you by now, except #8. That might be a surprise. But the two habits that you have the most control over are #3 and #4.

  • “A nutrient deficient diet has been shown to accelerate aging, experts agree.” That’s why we need to supplement. Several essential minerals are missing from our food these days.
  • “A diet high in processed foods, sugars and unhealthy fats can cause inflammation, damage collagen and accelerate skin aging.” A recent study claims that eating a hotdog reduces life expectancy by 38 minutes, and eating salmon could extend it by 70 minutes. So it’s a good idea to watch how often you eat processed foods
  • “Lack of exercise contributes to aging by causing muscle loss, bone density reduction, weight gain and cardiovascular issues.” No surprise here. We all have been repeatedly told exercise is foundational to our health—so what will be you’re exercise of choice. Mine is rowing..

Which habit can you most easily improve upon?
