Day 6: Herbal Deodorant

An herbal approach to 24 hour odor protection that is gentle, strong and lasts all day.

Because we all get stinky from stress and activity and deodorant needs no explanation.

This one has safe ingredients with serious protection that is aluminum free. At $5.49 it’s half the cost of its counterparts.

Eczema is known as “Asthma of the Skin”

….. for good reason.

Atopic eczema is a genetic condition. It is often seen in patients whose family members have it or other related conditions such as asthma, hay fever or allergic rhinitis. Some patients may have atopic eczema alone or with several or all of these other conditions.

So what do you do if you have eczema?

  1. Get to the root cause. Eczema is an autoimmune issue so taking a proper probiotic is critical… yes, for kids too. I can recommend a great one if you need help.
  2. Change laundry detergents, hair care products, body washes and lotions. Anything that touches the skin can irritate, so choose products that are void of caustic ingredients. This can be easier than you think…. and I found a way to not only improve my condition, but it saved me money too.
  3. Avoid steroids.  Doctors will prescribe steroid creams or suggest an over the counter product like CortAid. Do NOT take them as they will thin the skin and make you far more prone to skin cancer.
  4. Look for body products that will protect the skin. You can’t cure eczema but you can cause it to lie dormant with the right products. Look for ingredients like Allantoin and Petrolatum.

This “skin disease” can be disabling so staying in front of it is really important. Reach out if you need help with this!

This stuff is amazing!

Dry skin doesn’t stand a chance this winter! Keep your skin soft, smooth, and nourished with Renew. Infused with rich, hydrating ingredients, this lotion soothes irritation and locks in moisture for all-day softness.

What does the little “e” mean?

The tiny “e” symbol on products means the products meet strict European Beauty and Health Standards. Why is that important to know? Well, the European Beauty and Health Standard are known to be a safer, healthier standard with healthier people.

Here’s why that matters:
In Europe, more than 1,300 ingredients are “banned”. Yes, banned—over 1,300 ingredients—in personal care products because of health risks.
In the U.S.? Only 11 ingredients are banned. Shocking, right?

Even crazier—some companies actually create two versions of the same product: a safer, European-standard one and then a less-regulated version for the U.S.
It’s not about protecting us; it’s about their profits. I know this from Guyana. Coke and Pepsi even do this with their soda. I will drink it there, but not here!

I now look for products with the “e” label. They’re usually pricier, but, thankfully, I shop with a manufacturer that makes safe, high-quality products affordable around the Wellness Store. This isn’t just for the ladies—guys, your health matters too!
Switching to healthier, toxin-free options doesn’t have to break the bank.
If you’d like help making the change, I’ve got some tips to share!

The Real Complications of Type II Diabetes

A Type II Diabetes diagnosis opens the door for other serious diseases. It’s one of the ugliest diseases, but it can be reversed! One out of every three people is already Pre-Diabetic. It can affect your life in more ways than just diet. It’s something to take seriously!

Potential Complications

  • Heart and blood vessel disease. Diabetes is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and narrowing of blood vessels, a condition called atherosclerosis.
  • Nerve damage in limbs. This condition is called neuropathy. High blood sugar over time can damage or destroy nerves. That may result in tingling, numbness, burning, pain or eventual loss of feeling that usually begins at the tips of the toes or fingers and gradually spreads upward.
  • Other nerve damage. Damage to nerves of the heart can contribute to irregular heart rhythms. Nerve damage in the digestive system can cause problems with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation. Nerve damage also may cause erectile dysfunction.
  • Kidney disease. Diabetes may lead to chronic kidney disease or end-stage kidney disease that can’t be reversed. That may require dialysis or a kidney transplant.
  • Eye damage. Diabetes increases the risk of serious eye diseases, such as cataracts and glaucoma, and may damage the blood vessels of the retina, potentially leading to blindness.
  • Skin conditions. Diabetes may raise the risk of some skin problems, including bacterial and fungal infections.
  • Slow healing. Left untreated, cuts and blisters can become serious infections, which may heal poorly. Severe damage might require toe, foot or leg amputation.
  • Hearing impairment. Hearing problems are more common in people with diabetes.
  • Sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea is common in people living with Type II diabetes. Obesity may be the main contributing factor to both conditions.
  • Dementia. Type II diabetes seems to increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders that cause dementia. Poor control of blood sugar is linked to a more rapid decline in memory and other thinking skills.

Relief for troubled skin

This morning, I was watching the news and saw a commercial for Dupixent for eczema and sin rash. Most of the people in the commercial were kids, aged 12 or younger. I understand when your kids are suffering, you ache for them to feel better — often medication like Dupixent is prescribed.

For myself, I found an alternative doe my eczema with a few simple changes to products tI use everyday with no new hit to my budget.

These two products — Melapower Detergent and Renew Lotio — from the online Wellness shopping club where I shop monthly have made a difference for me and I no longer use Dupixent. My eczema has been alleviated with this laundry detergent and this skin lotion. Neither contains formaldehyde, parabens, chlorine bleach or other chemicals..I do think it’s important to get chemicals out of your home. What we breathe and what we apply to our skin is important. I’ve personally seen the difference.

Bringing my skin back to normalcy

Having suffered from eczema on and off over the years, I’ve been to allergists, dermatologists and immune specialists countless times. I’ve been on steroids, steroidal creams, various topicals meds and eleven cortisone shots! Then of course there were always the medical co-pays for both the visit and the medical “solution” that didn’t always work. At best most provided temporary relief.

Today, it’s so much simpler, I use this natural shampoo regularly and especially when eczema breaks out on my scalp. It keeps my skin under control.

For the rest of my body, I use this lotion or cream every day. It has really helped improve my skin over the years. It’s been a godsend (and a lot less expensive too!)
